Students Learn the Power of Giving Through Wamego Match Day
Wamego students had the opportunity to experience philanthropy firsthand during Wamego Match Day on October 2, thanks to the generosity of several community sponsors.
The Wamego High School Peer Chamber students were each given $200 to donate to one or more participating organizations. Students received a list of eligible nonprofits, visited their booths, and made the decision to donate their entire amount to one cause or divide it among several. This hands-on experience encouraged students to learn more about local organizations and the impact of charitable giving.
At the elementary level, each 5th grade student was also given the chance to participate, with $25 each to donate in the same way. For many, this was their first experience in making individual decisions about philanthropy and understanding how even small contributions can make a meaningful difference.
These opportunities were made possible by the following sponsors:
- High School Peer Chamber sponsorship: Bank of the Flint Hills and The Edna Mae Peddicord Charitable Trust
- 5th Grade sponsorship: Casterline Farms, Crossroads Real Estate & Auction, Family Haircutters, Flint Hills Fitness, Hank Hartwich Foundation, OJ & Mindy Pearl Family, and Tallgrass Commodities
