WWW Directories

Health Consumers "Top Ten" - http://mlanet.org/resources/medspeak/topten.html

The Medical Library Association recommends the listed web sites (sites are listed in alphabetical, NOT ranked, order).  See also The Consumer and Patient Health Information Section (CAPHIS) web page for the "top 100" sites.  CAPHIS of the MLA evaluates web sites based on the following criteria: credibility, sponsorship/authorship, content, audience, currency, disclosure, purpose, links, design, interactivity, and disclaimers.

Achoo:  Healthcare Online - http://www.achoo.com/

Achoo's primary objective is to bring to readers the most comprehensive healthcare information site on the Internet.  All aspects of healthcare have been included, such as clinical medicine, alternate medicine, as well as the business aspects of medicine. The producers envision the new Achoo to be the meeting place for consumers, professionals as well as people involved with the business of healthcare.

Hardin Meta Directory of Internet Health Sources - http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/hardin/md/index.html

This is a gateway to other directories. This site is catalogued by specialty, but it is more than just a simple (and extensive) collection. The webmaster has gone to the trouble of checking that the links within the target directories are functioning, and Hardin is quite choosy about whom it includes. If you cannot find what you are looking for in Hardin, a list of other similar collections is provided. This site allows the user to locate specific good quality information quickly.

Kidshealth.org for Teens -- http://kidshealth.org/teen/index.html

Got questions or concerns that you're too embarassed to talk about?  Find all your answers in this section created just for teens - whether it's about health, sex, food, sports, or school,

Sick.com - http://www.sick.com/

A directory, in alphabetical order, of sites concerning diseases, health, health care, etc.  Unless you know the name of the society, foundation, disease, etc., this site may be a little difficult to use.  This is a sub-site of the larger, more inclusive Encyberpedia.

Deciphering Medspeak - http://www.mlanet.org/resources/medspeak/index.html

"Deciphering Medspeak" was designed to help you translate common "medspeak" terms. You'll also find some tips on how to identify quality health care information on the Internet.
