Expanded Academic ASAP*

Expanded Academic ASAP provides bibliographic references, abstracts or full text for articles from more than 1550 scholarly and general-interest publications. Covered subject areas include the astronomy, religion, law, history, psychology, humanities, current events, sociology, communications and the non-technical general sciences.
 

Connecting to Expanded Academic ASAP via Infotrac Web

From school:
Connect to http://www.usd320.k12.ks.us/whs/lmc/odatabases.html
then select Full Text Databases - General category.

From home or elsewhere:
Access the Kansas Library Card (KSLC), log in with your PIN number and date of birth, and select the database you wish to search.  (If you don't have a KSLC, contact any Kansas library to obtain one - they're free!)

Simple Subject Search

Basic Search Screen

Place the cursor in the search box and type in your topic term.  LIMIT your search to articles with text only (see limit boxes below search line).  <Search>.

Subject or Sub-division Screen

If more than 50 article entries are identified, a “Narrow by subdivision” link will be provided.

Note:  “See also” or related subject link – this will note topics related to your in some way and helps in expanding or narrowing your search.

Sub-division Screen

This is an alphabetical list of sub-divisions for your topic.  These will help you to better identify articles that match your research topic.  Select a sub-division and click on the link for the list of articles in that area.
 

Selecting and Viewing Articles

The Citations Page will list articles that match the sub-division or subject that you selected.

View the citations and “Mark” the ones you are particularly interested in viewing.

Select “View Mark List” from the menu along the left-hand side of the screen.  You may have to return to the top of the list of citations to select this item.

Once you have the Mark List displayed, select the first article by clicking on the first “View” link.  The full-text of the first article will then be displayed.

You may move back and forth from article to article by clicking on the arrow buttons at the top or bottom of the screen.  Note the related subject headings displayed at the end of the article.  You may wish to note these and use them to further define your search.
 

To Print an Article

Select the "print" button in the left-hand margin or scroll down to the bottom of the article and select  “Browser Print Reformat”.  Use your browser's print function/button to print the article.
 

Other Access Options

If you select “Adobe Acrobat Retrieve”, the computer will then load Acrobat and display the article as the scanned copy from the magazine in which it was printed.  Be sure your computer has Adobe Acrobat installed.  Print from your internet browser.

You may also download articles to your network file for later use.  To do this:

1. Go to File on the browser ,
2. Select “Save as”,
3. Name your file and make sure you are placing it in your personal network folder.

You may also email articles to your personal mailbox to read, download or print at home.
