This comprehensive site has plenty to offer, from the history of the Olympic movement to an explanation of how an Olympics city is chosen. Readers can learn about more than 25,000 Olympic athletes by navigating to pages that feature color photos, individual medal counts, and free video footage.

Engaging articles on four winter Olympic sports, bobsledding, biathlon, luge, and snowboarding, discuss the necessary equipment and training and include color photos, maps, and graphics. Created by “a group of dedicated Olympic historians and statisticians,” this easy-to-use site offers pages on all of the games and every athlete, sport, and participating country. Though large ads distract, with a few clicks readers can find an overview of Olympic history or choose from an array of related trivia.

While this site features ads and solicitations for funds, it remains a good source of up-to-date news on U.S. and other athletes, including a candid AP article on the Jamaican bobsled team whose biggest obstacle is a lack of funds. Calendars of upcoming events and links to specific sports are additional highlights.

At this attractive site, Olympic fans can trace the progress of the torch across Canada, track the medal count by each participating country, catch up on the latest news, and access information on the Paralympic Games, scheduled for March, 2010.
