May G.E.M. Award Recipient
Congratulations to Susan Gartner, this month’s G.E.M Award recipient. She is a band director.
I would like to nominate Susan Gartner for the GEM Award. I believe for the past 14 years Susan has put together the Fine Arts Fair. Not only did she help create the idea 14 years ago with Marc Stratton but she has continued her efforts to expose the students of Wamego Middle School to the different Fine Arts that are available to them in our area and the possibilities of different careers or hobbies. This past year she single handedly put together the Fine Arts Fair while at the same time preparing for a middle school band concert. She called the presenters numerous times to set things up and deliver their schedules, she organized the students’ schedules, the teachers’ schedules and for there to be a hospitality lounge for the guests with the PTO. The Fine Arts Fair was a hit yet again this year and there is no way it could have been done with our Susan Gartner.
Along with the busy spring of concerts Susan has to help her students prepare for the annual Band Festival hosted by Wamego while the same time serving on the Positive Support Team and planning the Student Community Service Days for May.
I believe Susan deserves this award for going WAY above and beyond her job as a band instructor with her work with the Fine Arts Fair, Positive Support Team and Building Leadership Team. She makes things happen that are beneficial to the students and the staff of Wamego Middle School. Please select Susan for the GEM Award.
