INSTRUCTORS:
Mrs. Tammy Biswell
Dr. Mary Kaye Siebert
Courses Offered:
Course One: Exploring the Art of Teaching
Course Two: Practicing the Art of Teaching
The Future Educators Academy consists of a sequence of two semester courses for juniors and seniors. The overall goal of both courses is to allow high school students to explore the world of teaching by providing a realistic view of the opportunities and challenges facing today’s educators. Students can benefit from participating in the FEA in the following ways:
- The experiences and course of study will assist students in examining career options at a critical time of development
- The work-based experience and coursework will provide a solid foundation for successful teaching careers
- Successful completion of the FEA program can lead to college credits
- Students will develop a professional portfolio that will help them on their path toward becoming a teacher
Both courses will integrate academic rigor with career development in order to open the doors to the world of teaching, and challenge students to identify the qualities and characteristics of a quality educator. The two courses will prepare high school students for enrollment in a teacher preparation program and will include opportunities for classroom observations, practice teaching, daily reflection papers, and a portfolio.
